LVN vs LPN Explained
Difference Between LPN and LVN
If you’re trying to decide between becoming an LPN or an LVN, you’re in luck: there are one and the same – except for their titles.
LPN, which stands for Licensed Practical Nurse, is the title used in forty-eight states (and most Canadian provinces). California and Texas use the acronym LVN, for Licensed Vocational Nurse. (Residents of Ontario, Canada, call their practical nurses RPNs, which stands for Registered Practical Nurse.)
While these titles are slightly different, the roles are exactly the same. The only difference that matters is making sure your coursework and license correspond with the state in which you wish to work.
